DIVE ZONE WHITIANGA – DIPLOMA IN PROFESSIONAL SCUBA INSTRUCTION

Open up a world of job opportunities when you become a qualified PADI Dive Instructor

Dive Zone Whitianga has seen many students graduate from their diving programme and go on to have some pretty cool jobs. There are certain things that make Dive Zone Whitianga stand out from other training facilities.  Here’s why these things are important to your diving qualifications…

  1. We own our own boat and we’re out on the water all year round.

Our boat SCUBA DOO carries 10 divers and crew comfortably. It has two custom-built entry/exit platform railings and ladders, which means getting in and out of the water couldn’t be easier.

  1. Our perfect location means weather conditions don’t get in our way.

Whitianga is situated in the magnificent Mercury Bay and is at the hub of diving locations on the Coromandel Peninsula. Spoilt for choice with beautiful islands and secluded bays, you’re bound to find a sheltered spot here when the weather elsewhere would normally prevent you from diving. Our Dive Zone office is right next to the marina, literally a stone’s throw away from a multitude of boat and land-based dive spots. Living a life less ordinary starts right here.

  1. The more you dive, the more confident you become, and the more attractive you are to future employers.

It’s important to us that you finish your course feeling experienced and confident.  Because our shop is open 7 days a week and we’re always taking new recreational divers out, there’s definitely no shortage of opportunities to get out on the water and interact with real learner divers.

  1. Quality dive gear is so important, and you need to be able to trust the gear you work with 100%.

That’s why at Dive Zone Whitianga we’re strict about the gear we use and what we’re willing to sell to our customers and students. We keep a wide range of top quality dive gear all year round, and make sure it’s kept in great condition. We think it’s only fair that our students get to use our gear, in their free time (with conditions), free of charge.

  1. There’s more to our stunning location than cool diving. in fact, you could improve your employment opportunities!

Graduates from Dive Zone Whitianga are sought-after Instructors because of the high amount of ocean-based dive experience available throughout the course.

Not only is Whitianga a stunning and awesome place to live and study, but the weather and waters are tropical in the summer and far more welcoming in the winter than more southern parts of New Zealand. And while other training facilities might have you training in lakes, at Dive Zone Whitianga, we’re right on the water, so you’ll always be training in the ocean.

  1. Sometimes a beautiful location, nice weather and warm waters do matter.

Whitianga sits within the beautiful Mercury Bay which is well known for its endless marine experiences both on and under the water. And is definitely why the Coromandel is a hot destination for divers from all over New Zealand and  from around the world.

Why would you want to train anywhere else?

  1. Our Instructors are pretty cool – even if we do say so ourselves

But seriously, our crew are all highly skilled, trained PADI Dive Specialists, and every single one of them has done their training at Dive Zone Whitianga.

What do dive instructors do in the winter?

We get asked all the time what we do in the winter – surely it’s too cold to dive?

Not true! In fact, with a correctly-fitted wetsuit you won’t even notice the temperature. It also helps that the water temperature in the Coromandel sits at about 15 degrees during the winter months.

The winter months bring amazing clarity and visibility under the water, as well as plenty of fish life – so you’ll experience some of your best diving outside the summer period.

We pride ourselves on going the extra mile for our students.  If you are considering whether a dive career is for you, we invite you to come out on the water with us and we will give you an introduction to diving, free of charge.

As a Diploma student you will start as an entry-level diver and progress from PADI Open Water to PADI Specialty Instructor. Diploma graduates complete NZQA unit standards in a variety of diving areas, including:

  •  Night diving.
  • Search and recovery diving.
  • Computer-aided diving.
  • Deep diving.
  • Drift diving.
  • Altitude diving.
  • Marine species identification.
  • Wreck diving.
  • Hunting and collecting.

Our tertiary programmes are Student Loan approved to New Zealand citizens and residents, and international students are also catered for. The tertiary programmes are strategically relevant and approved for funding by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC). Academy of Diving Trust is registered as a Private Training Establishment by NZQA and has approval to sub-contract to Dive Zone Whitianga.

Want to join the Whitianga Dive Zone family or have a chat to us about a dive course? We’d love to hear from you… Our next intake commences 22nd August and after that February 2017.
